Darby Kiley

Darby Kiley is a Planner in the Tompkins County Planning Department. The position was created and funded by a private foundation in order for the municipalities in Tompkins County to address gas drilling issues and impacts. Darby provides technical support to the Tompkins County Council of Governments Gas Drilling Task Force and meets with individual municipalities to assess their needs based on a list of best practices, which is continually being updated.

Darby received her Master’s Degree in Natural Resources from Cornell University. She began her involvement in Finger Lakes issues when she became the only staff person of the Cayuga Lake Watershed Intermunicipal Organization. She has also worked in the planning departments in the Towns of Lansing and Ithaca.

At this point, I only have a little information about which Task Force members I need to appeal to the most. But, for what it’s worth, my husband and I are spending several hundred dollars to have an extensive evaluation of our well water now so that when it becomes contaminated later as a direct result of hydrofracking you can bet your bootie that there’s going to be one hell of a law suit. I would like to communicate as much to the DEC, particularly the water division, as they appear to be exercising minimal control and upper-handedness where they should be. See you at the informational meeting tonight in Groton. By the way, who cares what hydrofracking looks like from an aerial point of view?? What about the dangers underground???
